What I would be interested to know is if Michelle also displays symptoms of MTS through empathy with other persons. In other words if “machine synesthetes” are a subcategory of MTS or a totally new one. This has significant anthropological consequences in my opinion. Objects are (still) manufactured mostly by humans and they therefore represent a human action or a social process. As such if machine synesthetes are a sub-set of MTS then they perceive the social process from the inward (from a human to its product as its extension); conversely, if machine synesthetes do not feel the same empathy for another human — so only for the object — then the link between the product and the society they make is from the outward (or if you want, backwards, from the object to its maker).
