There is so much truth in what you say and what you propose. But there is always the overarching risk of ‘groupthink’, of how we constantly surround ourselves with like-minded people. And the more groupthink happens online the worse it is: the cloud becomes a very comfortable, peaceful place where ‘everybody’ (in reality: the members of my group) agree; while the real world (the one that matters) becomes increasingly confrontational. So whenever I experience what you describe so well in your post I also has the urgency to solve the discomfort I feel by excluding. And then I think of groupthink so I become hesitant…
But in fact the solution of this dilemma is easier than we think: if as you said social media is negative 80% of times, then the only solution is to get rid of all it!
