I think this can be widened. Karl Polanyi wrote about the disembeddedness of markets from the society, with a world that has been transformed — between the 19th and the 20th century — from one where the markets existed because of society to one where the society was run as an adjunct of the market. So it is the whole ‘market’ economy’ that is always thought as a self-reliant institution but that in fact is not!
