Dear Marco, thank you to let your voice be heard on this important topic. Yet, allow me to disagree selectively but decisively with you. Yes, the climate is changing and the situation we have now is irreversible - at least by humans. Will we have more heat in the future? Likely, but you are correct to say there is significant uncertainty on long-term weather models (which also means we can warm even more, btw). But my point is a more holistic one, if you allow. Human-led climate change has evolved within and because of unsustainable economic and social models that are greatly damaging - and this is sure - through individualism, the loss of the sense of community (don't get me started on those who don't want to vaccinate because of their 'freedom'), extreme and worsening income inequality... You and I can continue this list over coffee one day.

I have written earlier than we must think of environmental sustainability as a subset of economic and social sustainability, because how we damage the environment is a consequence of our unsustainable social and economic models. The violent backlash about climate change is absolutely useful because it shows we are alive as a community. And it means that we can proceed with the same juvenile collective-coordinated vigour to fight the root of the problem: the social and economic injustices that every day are damaging climate ecosystems and that are growing silently, muted by the glamour of a personal trips to space by billionaires who don't pay enough taxes, the roaring of digital currencies, the loud obsession with 'likes', and the deafening sound of central banks creating money backed by nothing. And - I am sure you agree with me - this fight is very important because the short-medium term consequences of our social and economic models are even worse than those yelled out by scientists and the IPCC. And more pressing, and daunting, much more so than slushing on a giant carbon offsetting scheme or a realistic carbon market. So, I celebrate the agitation around climate crisis and it is a fight that I welcome and facilitate with my actions. It proves that people can coordinate around a positive idea. Because the next idea we need to fight is going to be an even more massive one.
